Pathways to Independence

Pathways to Independence is a nonprofit organization serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Pampa and the surrounding area. Our mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for adults with disabilities to build life skills, increase independence, strengthen confidence, and stay actively connected to their community.

At Pathways, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, contribute, and be included. Our program focuses on practical, everyday skills that can make a real difference in the lives of the adults we serve. Each week, our friends participate in hands-on activities that include cooking, meal preparation, money management, household skills, personal responsibility, communication, social interaction, safety, and community involvement.

Our program is designed to be active and engaging. Instead of simply talking about life skills, we practice them. Our friends help prepare meals, learn how to work within a budget, practice shopping skills, complete household tasks, participate in group discussions, and work together as a team. Community outings give them opportunities to practice these skills in real-world settings while also building relationships and becoming more involved in the community around them.

Pathways is still a young and growing organization, but the need in our area is already very clear. We currently have a growing waitlist of adults and families who are looking for meaningful programs, support, and opportunities. As our program grows, so does our need for volunteers, supplies, equipment, activities, meals, and additional resources.

Funds raised through Panhandle Gives will directly support the continued growth of Pathways to Independence. Donations may help provide program and kitchen supplies, educational materials, community outings, life-skills activities, meals, safety equipment, and other day-to-day needs. Contributions also help us plan for the future as we work toward expanding our program and eventually serving more adults in our community.

One of the most important parts of Pathways is giving our friends opportunities to do things for themselves. Whether someone is learning to prepare a meal, count money, follow a schedule, complete a household task, communicate with others, or confidently participate in the community, every step toward greater independence matters.

We are incredibly grateful for the support Pathways has received from families, volunteers, local businesses, churches, organizations, and community members. This program would not be possible without people who believe in our mission and in the abilities of the adults we serve.
