SALAR (St. Anthony Legacy and Redevelopment)

SALAR was created to assist with building community-based wealth beginning in the area around the former St. Anthony’s hospital, the historic part of which is now being repurposed into subsidized apartments for seniors.

That area, plus all of North Heights, Hamlet, Eastridge, and San Jacinto are considered food deserts - areas of the city where those without ready transportation have little or no access to a market selling fresh produce or non-processed food.  SALAR is working to change that, by providing a mobile market that can travel to several sites in these food desert areas.  The market will be housed in a large trailer, pulled behind a pickup truck, and fitted with shelving and cold storage.  We plan to provide a variety of fruits and vegetables, some meat, and other basic necessities at reasonable prices, and to develop a schedule that best meets the needs in each area of town.

TPG allowed us to complete the trailer renovation and your support this year will help us raise the $20,000 we need to cover operating costs.
