Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle

A nonprofit organization

Dear Friends,

Every year, communities across the Texas Panhandle come together for an event that exemplifies the spirit of generosity and unity —The Panhandle Gives. As we gear up for the campaign in 2025, this event is poised to make an even more significant impact on the programs of Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle than it did in 2024. This annual giving campaign acts as a beacon of hope, bringing together donors, volunteers, and community members to contribute to a cause larger than themselves. The Panhandle Gives 2025 is not just an event but a movement aimed at fostering community development and resilience. It provides an opportunity for individuals and organizations to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Our collective efforts during The Panhandle Gives have the potential to transform lives. By focusing on impactful donations, we can support the initiatives that address critical issues such as poverty, hunger, education, and the health of moms and babies. We ask you to uplift the programs of Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle through your generosity.

Key Programs Supported by The Panhandle Gives

The contributions made during The Panhandle Gives directly support several key programs within Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle. These programs are designed to address a wide array of needs within our community, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources necessary for a dignified and stable life.

1.    Affordable Housing: Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle is a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) that provides housing to low-income clients. Our mission is to provide safe, clean and affordable housing to low-income individuals and families in Amarillo, Texas. Our three single family homes are currently managed by FIMC Commercial Realty, which allows us to keep the properties very well maintained. Utilities are also included in the rent which helps low-income clients that may not be able to afford the cost of utilities.

2. The Refugee Supportive Services Program: Since the fall of Saigon in the mid-seventies, CCTXP has received and helped resettle refugees that arrived through a federal refugee resettlement program, providing them with initial housing, orientation, employment services, case management, and crisis intervention. Although we no longer anticipate receiving refugees like we have in the past, we will continue to offer supportive and interactive programs through 2026. The following is some additional information about this program:

a.  A refugee is a person who is fleeing a well-founded fear of persecution.

b. The goal of the refugee program is to help refugees become self-sufficient within 4 months of arrival.

c.   Amarillo is home to people from over 20 nations around the world.

3. Education Services: provides class-based sessions to teach ESL, ELI, Financial Literacy, Citizenship, tutoring and school advocacy for school age children. While the focus of these programs in the past was to help former refugees, we are reimagining how these programs can be retooled to serve anyone who may be needing educational instruction.

 4. Immigration Legal Services helps those immigrants and refugees in and outside of the United States to obtain the necessary paperwork to become residents, find work and to become citizens of this country. The program is fee based but designed to work with lower income clients who otherwise may be unable financially to pursue permanent residence or citizenship.

5. Community Services Program: Our Community Service Program helps meet some of the more basic needs of people experiencing poverty. As described more thoroughly below, we provide support in the fight against food insecurity and poor vision:

a. The InterFaith Hunger Project (IFHP) strives to help people who are living on a fixed income. We provide a monthly supply of…
