Wheeler Sports

A nonprofit organization

The Wheeler Sports Association is excited to continue working with our local entities to enhance the fields and facilities at Tom Britt Memorial Park. Our programs are led by a dedicated board of parent volunteers, alongside friends and commUNITY members who share our commitment to supporting local youth.

Thanks to the generous donations and grants we received in 2023, we were able to fully repair and upgrade the sprinkler system for the baseball fields, ensuring that the fields remain in great condition for years to come. This improvement was made possible by countless volunteer hours and the support of the commUNITY and funds from The 2023 Panhandle Gives.

Now, we’re setting our sights on a new goal: raising $100,000 to secure grants for building essential park facilities, including restrooms and a concession stand. These additions will elevate the park’s convenience and provide a better experience for all visitors.

In recent years, we’ve seen incredible growth. In 2022 alone, over 100 kids participated in our youth baseball and soccer programs. Alongside the field improvements, our Wheeler Boys Scout Troop 472 added a walking trail and obstacle course improvements, making the park a hub for numerous outdoor activities.

We deeply appreciate your continued support in helping us improve the quality of life in our commUNITY. Every donation, whether $5, $50, $500, or $5,000, helps us move closer to our goals, and everyone has a role to play! We also welcome volunteers for roles like coaching, umpiring, equipment management, photography, or working the concession stand.

Our Mission:

At Wheeler Sports Association, we teach the fundamentals of the game while promoting a lifelong love of sports. Our focus is on creating positive experiences and instilling the core values of discipline, teamwork, safety, respect, and integrity.

Who We Are

The Tom Britt Memorial Park was started July 1, 1986 and is fully funded, maintained and operated by the Wheeler Lions Club. They've partnered with Wheeler Sports Board and together they are diligently working together to improve the Tom Britt Memorial Park facilities for future generations.

A soccer field was added to the complex in 2017, batting cages in 2018 and 120 trees were planted around the parameter of the complex (Pistache, Pine, Oak, Pecan and Elm) in 2019.

We are currently raising money, as we have flipped the baseball fields, added 2 little league fields. We will be installing new fencing, dugouts and lights for the fields. We also have plans for a new concession that will serve the baseball and soccer fields.

We are working on roads and walking trails that will outline the park that will provide a great outlet for exercise. We have future plans for a kids playground area.

All of this takes funding and we are excited to partner with AAF to not only raise funds, but increase awareness of the wonderful things happening as we work to improve our resources and pave a way for our community to enjoy the opportunities provided to them.
