The Coming Home Program exists to ensure that every person experiencing homelessness in Amarillo has the opportunity to find safety, stability, and hope. What began in 2018 as a small pilot with a single Case Manager has grown into a comprehensive network of outreach, housing navigation, supportive housing, mental health services, crisis response, and community partnerships that now serve over 500 individuals each year.
We meet people exactly where they are—on the streets, in encampments, in shelters, at community centers, and in their homes once they’re housed. Our work spans the entire continuum of care:
Our Outreach Specialists are often the first point of contact for individuals who are unsheltered. We provide survival supplies, crisis intervention, transportation to safety, resource referrals, and ongoing engagement for those who are least likely to seek help. During extreme weather events, our team goes into the community at night to check on individuals, provide shelter and transportation, and ensure no one is left behind.
Our Housing Navigators and Case Managers help people overcome the complex barriers to obtaining and keeping housing—from locating units and completing applications to securing documentation, benefits, and move-in support. Since 2018, we have helped over 250 people obtain stable housing, with more than 100 graduates maintaining long-term independence.
Many individuals we serve experience untreated mental health challenges. Our Mental Health Case Manager and Peer Support Specialist provide ongoing support, crisis care, reconnection to treatment providers, medication coordination, and wellness planning. Their lived experience and compassionate approach help bridge gaps for those who feel unseen.
Coming Home serves as a partner in identifying, assessing, and preparing candidates for Transformation Park’s cabin community. We help individuals stabilize, connect to services, and build a path toward permanent housing—ensuring they are supported through every step of the transition.
Through partnerships with organizations like the Goodwill Career Center and previous collaboration with PREP Academy, participants build computer skills, employment readiness, and workforce experience. Many secure long-term jobs, reconnect with education, and begin planning for brighter futures.
Transportation is often a barrier to stability. Through TAP, individuals can access free transit rides to appointments, employment, the shelter system, and supportive services—opening doors to opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
We help individuals access food support, identification documents, medical care, benefits (such as SNAP and SSI/SSDI), addiction treatment, clothing, hygiene items, and connections to partner agencies throughout Amarillo. We work alongside shelters, medical providers, mental health agencies, the library system, and many nonprofits to ensure no one walks alone.
In the past year alone, Coming Home Partners served over 500 unique individuals, providing thousands of touchpoints of support. Many gained housing, income, healthcare, stability, and hope. Others found safety during extreme weather, reconnected with family, or took crucial steps toward recovery and independence.
Success is not just measured by how many people are housed—it is measured by every moment of dignity restored, every crisis avoided, every connection rebuilt, and every step someone takes toward a future they once believed was out of reach.
This work is only possible because our community believes in second chances, dignity, and compassion.
When you give to Coming Home Partners during Panhandle Gives, you are helping ensure that:
People sleeping outside have someone who checks on them.
Families have help navigating shelter and housing options.
Individuals living with mental health challenges are not alone.
People can access transportation to jobs, medical care, and services.
Those transitioning into new housing receive ongoing support, not just a key.
Amarillo continues to build a compassionate, connected community for all.
