The PLACE

The PLACE opened our doors and started welcoming friends and neighbors on January 17, 2022. Refugee Language Project, Square Mile, and We Find in Love saw the need for a refugee community center here in Amarillo in response to the Afghan crisis and the already growing need for support to our growing 15,000 refugee population. Since then, we have had more than 17,000 immigrants, children, and volunteers walk through our doors from many different areas around the world. We are located just a block away from where so many Afghans were settled here in Amarillo, which is why we chose this location. Seeing as they came here with little to nothing including a drivers license or transportation, it was perfect that we were in walking distance! With our new partnership with Catholic Charities, we are naturally seeing more culture groups.

Day to day here at the PLACE always looks different. RLP offers ESL classes 4 times a week, WFiL offers computer skills and arts classes, mi2 provides new small business information, the PLACE and CCTX has homework help after school, immigration assistance, Public Health provides health and wellness assistance, and everything in between. We offer all of this to our friends FREE of charge as we would never want finances to hinder needed support and education.
