PAWS - Pampa Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 100% volunteer 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of the shelter animals at the Pampa animal shelter. We make adoptions, reclaims, and transfers of animals to no-kill rescues happen (5% animals saved in 2010 --> 91% animals saved in 2025). Plus, we provide life saving vaccines and medical care for at risk animals in the shelter and the community.

In the last year, the animal rescue community has been overwhelmed by the increased number of surrenders and abandoned animals. There have been so many more animal emergencies from families with no money to help their pets. Without PAWS help, the animals would most certainly have died. Almost every animal is connected to a person and without this program, people and pets in our community would be at such a risk. In addition to all of PAWS other needs, PAWS supports low income families, low income senior citizens, and disabled individuals. By keeping the animals with their family and healthy, the person's emotional level is more stable and helps them be more connected to the Pampa community. PAWS also maintains a small animal food pantry for emergency needs. As an advocate for animals, keeping animals fed  is a high priority.

PAWS also encourages, educates, and runs a low income spay/neuter program to reduce the number of unwanted pets. As the years have gone by, the breadth of needs has expanded exponentially. In 2010 the small city shelter held 30 animals. Today, in 2025, there are many days where we see 30 animals come to the shelter in one 24-hour period. No matter the number of animals, PAWS goal remains that same - to provide a path towards loving, forever homes through responsible pet ownership.
