Eveline Rivers Coat Project

In 1979 an elementary school Principal showed me the connection between Education and Warmth. The story goes----“I had 8 children miss school all of last week”. My guess was, they missed school due to the flu or chickenpox, which both were going around at that time. The Principal smiled and said,” NO, it is so deathly cold outside, that they cannot walk to school without literally freezing to death, not one of the children owns a coat.” Fast forward 44 years later this project, which was formed from that very statement, is still in effect, putting coats on several thousand children each year, in the Amarillo, Canyon, Bushland, River Road and Highland Park School areas. We work on a very tight budget to provide warm, winter coats, hats, gloves, and socks to provide the WARMTH.
